Just found out about a great event coming up in my area…
The fun begins November 1st through the 3rd. And here’s the best bit…Saturday they’re doing a spotlight on young adult authors, which includes a full day of workshops. The organizers are touting it as the largest gathering of young adult authors in the region. Saturday’s events are from 10am – 3pm. Here’s a peek at the day’s schedule:
- 10-11 a.m. “Writing for Teens,” – A workshop presented by bestselling author Matt de la Pena. Get tips and advice on writing for teens.
- 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. “Who Says There’s Not Something for Everyone?” – Matt de la Pena, Sara Zarr, Simone Elkeles, Kirsten Hubbard, Abby McDonald, Stephanie Perkins and moderator Lindsey Leavitt discuss the wide range of contemporary fiction available for teens
- 12:30-1:30 p.m. “Paranormal Lover’s Paradise: Vampire, Angel, Ghost or Zombie.” – Daniel Marks, Daniel Waters, Dan Haring, Sara Wilson Etienne, Lauren Kate, Emily McKay, Melissa de la Cruz, and Suzanne Selfors will engage in a lively conversation about the diverse characters, real and unreal, in young adult fantasy, in a panel moderated by Kevin Emerson.
- 1:45-2:45 p.m. “Girl Power: From Sweet to Spicy (and Sometimes Cyborg!) – Jen Calonita, Kieran Scott, Elizabeth Eulberg, Kiera Cass, Ginger Rue, Kody Keplinger, Marissa Meyer, Rosemary Clement-Moore and moderator Suzanne Young will talk about the many strong and independent female characters in today’s young adult fiction.
And if that isn’t enough the young adult program concludes Saturday night with a steampunk ball!
