Let the Editing Begin!

First things first…

I can’t believe I haven’t shown you guys this yet –

My first draft ended up being just under 170,000 words (Way too many!) and in 6X9 paperback form it is almost 800 pages long! Which of course will change once the editing begins.

Since I won NaNoWriMo this year, I won 5 free copies of my book from CreateSpace. I wanted a physical copy of my first draft, but I didn’t want to use my free copies for that, so I went on the site with the intentions of purchasing one copy. If you’re interested in printing out your book, this is the place to go. They were quick and inexpensive. I ended up getting a copy for free, but if I had purchased it, one copy would have cost me just $10.

I know it’s just a draft copy, but seeing my book in print is just surreal, and kind of amazing.

Editing Plans

A few months ago I thought I had my editing plans all figured out. Then I started hearing about an online revision course that a lot of people were raving about. After some research, I decided to invest in myself and my draft, and I’m taking the course!

It’s called How to Revise Your Novel and is taught by author Holly Lisle. I’ve already started, and just in week one I can tell it’s going to be worth it!

So that’s it for now. I’ll be posting updates along the way. Right now I’m reading through my draft which has been interesting to say the least!

Off to edit…

I am SO glad that you posted the link to CreateSpace. I have been trying to find a place to print copies for months, but just didn’t see anything worth the price. This is PERFECT.

Good luck editing! I’m excited you are ready to move into this stage!

  3. I would so love a copy of my book, too. Good luck with your edits, Poppy. Do keep us updated and share what you learn.

  5. Good girl! Just finished first round of edits on my Nano from last year. Going to put it down for a minute before I do my next round. Can’t wait to hear how your class is helping you.
